Restoring your home after disaster can be difficult. That difficulty can be compounded if it includes cleaning up mold. HUD has created a video to help consumers understand how to clean mold after a disaster. This video the 10 mold remediation steps:

  1. Wear protective clothing and use a respirator.
  2. Isolate moldy areas.
  3. Remove porous moldy materials.
  4. Clean with non-phosphate detergent and disinfect.
  5. Consider a borate treatment.
  6. Flush the air.
  7. Speed dry.
  8. Remain on mold alert.
  9. Do not restore until dry.
  10. Consider restoring with flood resistant materials.
